Five Little Fingers

Five Little Fingers
Written and recorded by Bill Anderson

G                           C               G       C
I came home last night to a dark and lonely cottage
           G                       D7                 G
I took the wreath off the door and somehow I stumbled inside
                    C                 G           C
I just can't I just can't I said live without her
        G                  D7                      G
Give me one reason to live now that my darling has died
                     C                  G
And then five little fingers touched my hand
D7                      C             G
Five little fingers too young to understand

Spoken:

And there was a softness in my little girl's touch
     C
That seemed to say daddy I need you so
       D7                                  C
And in five little seconds her five little fingers
                             G
Told me all that I wanted to know

                        C                 G         C
I could tell her little eyes were full of questions
           G                      D7              G
I tried to answer but all I could do was hold her tight
              C                  G      C
Forgive me forgive me I said for crying
                 G                    D7                    G
But darling your daddy has got such a load on his shoulders tonight
                     C                G
And then five little fingers soft and dear
D7                                 C              G
Touched me on the cheek and gently brushed away a tear

Spoken:

And I knew that in her own little way
   C
My baby was saying daddy I love you so
        D7                               C
It only took five little seconds for her five little fingers
                                G
To tell me all that I needed to know

 D7                      C             G
(Five little fingers too young to understand)
